Hit that cause Sidney Crosby's 5 month absence

This hit happened in the NHL's winter classic and is the reason why star player Sidney Crosby has been out for so long.  Crosby received a nasty concussion after being blindsided in the head by David Steckle.  Many people consider this to be a dirty hit and I believe it could have been avoided.  He was a dynamic part of the Pittsburgh team and this injury could be the reason they don't win another Stanley Cup.

NHL Playoff Quarter Final Predictions

Western Conference:

Vancouver Canucks Vs Chicago Blackhawks: This is going to be a well fought series but I'm taking Vancouver to win the series because they've been having an unbelievable record breaking season.

San Jose Sharks Vs Los Angeles Kings: Again another tough match up.  LA Kings and San Jose Sharks both have very strong offenses but I think this series is going to come down to the power plays, and San Jose's first power play line with Heatley, Marleau and Thornton is just too good for the LA Kings defense so I'm going to call San Jose for this one.

Detroit Red Wings Vs Pheonix Coyotes:  This match up isn't a hard one to call at all.  Although Pheonix has had a great season, they are no match for the veteran Detroit Red Wings.  Detroit has been in this spot too many times to get out in the first round.

Anaheim Ducks Vs Nashville Predators: This is a really nice match up of two teams of very even caliber skill.  This one for me is a toss up but I'm going to take Nashville for the win in this one.

Eastern Conference:

Washington Capitals Vs New York Rangers: Although the New York Rangers have a great net minder in Henrik Lundqvist, the Washington Capitals have a great counter for that in Alex Ovechkin.  The Washington Capitals high powered offense is too much for the rangers in my opinion and I'm going to pick Washington for this one.

Philadelphia Flyers Vs Buffalo Sabers: This is a great match up with the former Stanley Cup finalist and the Buffalo Sabers.  Buffalo just squeaked by into a playoff position and Phili has had their name heard in the league.  So I'm going to take the Broad Street Bully's (Philadelphia Flyers) in this quarter final matchup.

Boston Bruins Vs Montreal Canadians:  This is a really physical match up in two very skilled teams.  Montreal really upset some people with how well they did in the playoffs last year, but I don't think it will be the same this year.  I believe the Bruins captain Zdeno Chara will lead them to a first round victory.

Pittsburgh Penguins Vs Tampa Bay Lightning: This is probably the most exciting match in the league.  Two high caliber offenses and great defensive teams.  Pittsburgh is going through this without three big name players in Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Matt Cooke.  They have really taken a hit in their team for the playoffs so I'm going with Steve Stamkos, Martin St. Louis and Viny Lecalvalier for the win in this series.

These are my quarter final playoff predictions.  Let me know what you think about them and who you think will win!

NHL Jerseys

Away Jerseys:

Home Jerseys:

These are all the NHL Jersey's, home and away.  My favourite team in the NHL is the Toronto Maple Leafs and I like their NHL jersey's because they are very simple and represent the country they are from.  What is everyone else's favourite teams?  Let me know.

Grabovski takes a slap shot off the head for a goal!

I remembered this from the season, such a flukey goal!  One of the many random things that can happen in sports!  After the play Grabovski was seen laughing about it after he was given a brand new helmet!  Thank god sports players have a lot of insurance so they can get new equipment!  It's like he was playing soccer out there!

Toronto Maple Leafs

I found this video on youtube the other day and thought it was a really good thing to post up on my blog.  I think it really captures the way the leafs season began.  I'm glad that it puts a great emphasis on how the rookie James Reimer came in and turned the season around for the organization.  I feel that James Reimer along with our upcoming rookie roster that next season the playoffs, maybe even the Stanley Cup is in the grasp for the Toronto Maple Leafs.  This season was a great learning season and next year if the leafs build on that then they can do great.

NHL's Goal of the year 2011

Wow, just wow.  This was Jordan Eberle's FIRST career goal as an NHL rookie!? Can you believe it? What a great rookie year he had!

Pierre Mcguire

"Ryan Johansen has been carrying the team on his back this whole game, the other players need to get on his back and just start ridin' it!"

Dunta Robinson hits Desean Jackson and they BOTH get injured!

Man these guys got jacked up! Desean Jackson did not see that coming.  Thats a concussion for sure, I hope he has health insurance!  I'm wondering if these guys need injury lawyer's for when stuff like this happens?  Any thoughts?

Zdeno Chara's hit on Max Pacioretti

This was a very controversial hit for the hockey community.  Personally, I believe that it was not intentional.  In a game that is played at such high speeds, how is it possible to know that the man your about to finish your check on is close to the beginning of the boards.  It is way to hard to determine that at the intensity this level demands.  In my opinion, Zdeno Chara was finishing his check a bit late, that had it been any other part of the boards it would have been just an ordinary hit.  If anything the call was interference for a late hit.  I support the NHL in their decision to not fine or suspend Zdeno Chara.
